In 1989, the first Eslite bookstore, a small operation opened near Taipei’s Renai Circle, offering readers a selection of titles from the arts and humanities, to life and creativity. Twenty years on, thanks to its unique and professional system of selecting books plus a multi-channel integrated business model , that small bookstore gradually developed into a conglomerate with the cultural and creative industries at its core. In 1999, the Eslite Dunnan Store began operating 24 hours a day—a first-of-its-kind decision—thus allowing Taipei’s residents access to the best of books day or night. In 2004, Eslite was chosen “Asia’s Best Bookstore” in Time Magazine’s The Best of Asia survey and in 2011, Eslite was the recipient of the Top 100 Taiwan Brands Award presented by the Ministry of Economic Affairs R.O.C.
